ISO 23081-2:2021 Information and documentation — Metadata for managing records — Part 2: Conceptual and implementation issues
Technical Committee: ISO/TC 46/SC 11 Archives/records management
"This document establishes a framework for defining metadata elements consistent with the principles and implementation considerations outlined in ISO 23081-1. The purpose of this framework is to: a) enable standardized description of records and critical contextual entities for records; b) provide common understanding of fixed points of aggregation to enable interoperability of records and information relevant to records between organizational systems; and c) enable reuse and standardization of metadata for managing records over time, space and across applications. It further identifies some of the critical decision points that need to be addressed and documented to enable implementation of metadata for managing records. It aims to: identify the issues that need to be addressed in implementing metadata for managing records; identify and explain the various options for addressing the issues; and identify various paths for making decisions and choosing options in implementing metadata for managing records."
ISO/IEC 29500-2:2021 Document description and processing languages — Office Open XML file formats — Part 2: Open packaging conventions
Technical Committee: ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34 Document description and processing languages
"This document defines a set of conventions for packaging one or more interrelated byte streams (parts) as a single resource (package). These conventions are applicable not only to Office Open XML specifications as described in ISO/IEC 29500-1 and ISO/IEC 29500-4, but also to other markup specifications. ISO/IEC 29500 (all Parts) specifies a family of XML schemas, collectively called Office Open XML, which define the XML vocabularies for word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation documents, as well as the packaging of documents that conform to these schemas. The goal is to enable the implementation of the Office Open XML formats by the widest set of tools and platforms, fostering interoperability across office productivity applications and line-of-business systems, as well as to support and strengthen document archival and preservation, all in a way that is fully compatible with the existing corpus of Microsoft® Office1 documents."
ISO/IEC 21838-1:2021 Information technology — Top-level ontologies (TLO) — Part 1: Requirements
Technical Committee: ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 32 Data management and interchange
"This document specifies required characteristics of a domain-neutral top-level ontology (TLO) that can be used in tandem with domain ontologies at lower levels to support data exchange, retrieval, discovery, integration and analysis. If an ontology is to provide the overarching ontology content that will promote interoperability of domain ontologies and thereby support the design and use of purpose-built ontology suites, then it needs to satisfy certain requirements. This document specifies these requirements. It also supports a variety of other goals related to the achievement of semantic interoperability, for example, as concerns legacy ontologies developed using heterogeneous upper-level categories, where a coherently designed TLO can provide a target for coordinated re-engineering. This document specifies the characteristics an ontology needs to possess to support the goals of exchange, retrieval, discovery, integration and analysis of data by computer systems. The following are within the scope of this document: Specification of the requirements an ontology needs to satisfy if it is to serve as a top-level hub ontology; Specification of the relations between a top-level ontology and domain ontologies; Specification of the role played by the terms in a top-level ontology in the formulation of definitions and axioms in ontologies at lower levels."
