Jon Shaw is the University of Pennsylvania Libraries' Associate Vice Provost and Deputy University Librarian. In this role as Associate Vice Provost and Deputy University Librarian, Jon serves as the chief strategist and senior advisor to the Vice Provost. The primary focus of the Deputy is to support and assist the Vice Provost with the overall administration of the Penn Libraries with primary responsibility for the coordination of library operations, establishing best practices, policies and procedures, and staff activities, including day-to-day oversight and long-term planning for organizational structure, services, staff, operations, and spaces. Jon works in coordination and directs the ongoing strategic planning processes for the Libraries in collaboration with the executive leadership team and oversees the assessment and outcomes of strategic initiatives. He also works with the Provost's office, the Libraries' Vice Provost and the Director of Development to ensure center goals are aligned with the University's strategic priorities. Jon represents the Penn Libraries in University and external group meetings nationally and internationally, including as the Vice Provost's primary designee.
Jon holds a BA in Philosophy from Temple University, an MLIS from Drexel, and an MS in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a part of the Harvard Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. Jon is also a former Senior Fellow in UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and in 2018/19 he was an Association of Research Libraries Leadership Fellow.
