Charles Watkinson, Associate University Librarian for Publishing and Director of the University of Michigan Press offered attendees of ALPSP meeting this lively discussion of the important mission played by university presses in an evolving open access landscape. 

Watkinson outlined his key points as follows:

  • Open access is core to achieving our mission as university presses
  • We need to reclaim open access by living our share UP values
  • The financial tools to do so are within our grasp
